We’re so glad you’ve decided to go on your invisalign journey with us here at UK dental specialists. Having your dream smile will make your beautiful life that little bit brighter and we can’t wait to watch you grow in confidence. It’s super important that both during and after your invisalign in St Albans process you take after your teeth, gums and aligners to get the most out of the experience.

Keeping it clean

The aligners themselves should be worn 22 hours a day and so can quickly become a hotbed for germs and bacteria to grow and multiply. For this reason you need to make sure every time you take them out to eat and drink you need to be rinsing them in cold water before putting them back in.

When it comes to cleaning them you should be cleaning your invisalign in St Albans as frequently as you brush your teeth. That’s at least twice a day. You should be using a soft bristle brush, not electric as this could cause damage to your invisaligns. We recommend using a clear liquid soap, that’s none abrasive, ideally a natural one to clear away any food debris. You can also use a very small amount of toothpaste but you need to use one that isn’t abrasive or going to stain the aligners with color.

One of the major benefits of invisalign as you well know is that they are super discreet – not keeping them clean will quickly cause the aligners to discolor and fade and so they won’t appear crystal clear. Invisalign cleaning crystals work to bring back the shine. They are readily available online and in chemists and we highly recommend investing for the duration of your treatment plan.

Keep your aligners in a hard vented box when you aren’t wearing them, this will protect them from damage and from any unwanted bugs getting to them.

Keeping your teeth and gums clean

If you’re wanting to reach the end of your teeth straightening journey with a healthy set of teeth and gums, keeping on top of oral hygiene is super important. You need to brush twice daily minimum after breakfast and just before bed. If you don’t have an electric toothbrush this is ok, but you need to make sure you are using the correct brushing technique. Make sure you are brushing the whole tooth and gum line.

If you aren’t flossing, this is your time to start. Flossing is the only way to get deep down in the gum line where all the nast bugs hang out and turn into tartar and plaque. Tartar and plaque is the leading cause for gum disease and tooth decay. We definitely don’t want to be treating any of our patients for either of these after they’ve completed their invisalign in St Albans treatment.

If you have any more questions of invisalign care feel free to contact the team at the practice. We’d love to hear from you and are well equipped to get your sorted with any products you need to keep your aligners clean and well looked after.
